Jet Body
Board

Another hobby/project sprouted due to his proximity to the coastline is a jet propulsion boogie board.

“Most of my friends surfed when I was growing up. Very few boogie boarded like me. I always enjoyed being close to the water and feeling like I was going extremely fast! However, when hightide came in there were times when I would struggle to get a wave back into shore.

I also had a friend of mine get stuck on his boogie board and had to be pulled in by a surfer. This then sprouted the idea of designing a system in the boogie board that would give a boost. This boost I imagined could be used for catching waves but also to get out of potentially dangerous situations.”

With this idea, Garrett researched boat hull design, impeller design, fluid flows and dynamics and much more that came as this grew substantially into a major project. With spreadsheets, flow simulations completed along with design iterations, he is now at a stage of manufacturing of parts and assembly / testing. Below are a few snap shots simplified of the overall design.
