Sluice Systems

Growing up in Oregon, Garrett has always enjoyed going to the beach; whether that was to explore, boogie board or walk the town and eat some great food. He then discovered through a friend there was a place that you could gold prospect with equipment right on the beach.

“I took this hobby to an entirely new level for me, where I decided to design and build my own sluice system from scratch. I considered all variables from material types, cost, build time, adjustability, conveniences, and anything I felt would make this the ultimate sluice system that I could use from the coastline to the mountains.”

He couldn’t believe it, but when he saw the amount of gold retrieved, it didn’t take long before a new hobby was born. And with the amazing prospectors welcoming him into the community, he made weekly trips to the beach to run his sluice.

Being able to test your own product in the environment it is intended for is the ideal situation. And that’s what Garrett was set up with… he was able to test out his design and then go home and make adjustments to improve it.

Garrett immediately took to gathering information from everyone willing to share, researching the art behind how gold is retrieved. Water velocity, density, water angle all were variables that had to be considered in order to get the fine gold to drop into the riffles.

Garrett continues to perfect and investigate new improvements to his sluice box design. Lately he has been 3D printing parts, and creating molds for curing parts.

This offers increased durability and cost effectiveness. Below are a few snap shots simplified of the overall design.
